I have completed the transition to WordPress. It was surprisingly painless, I mean, I expected it to be really hard to use but it was actually a pleasurable transition. WP is really a lot better than MT in so, so many ways, so many that I can’t even detail them here for you, and since you wouldn’t care anyway I won’t bore you. Suffice it to say that I’m impressed.

Here’s the thing: WP did not come with the functionality I needed. I spent many hours looking at different photoblogging software packages, and most of them seem to want you to be hardcore into photography and post things like focal depth and exposure, along with a small caption. They’re geared toward pictures with text rather than text with pictures. Also, none of the ones I tried out were any good, or, indeed, even worked at all. As it turns out, WordPress is supremely extensible. I wrote in the needed functionality in about two hundred lines of code – that includes the photo uploading and thumbnailing and the mood and music stuff. Incredible. The code is also separated off into two plugins, so that I can turn the features on and off at will. Again, very impressed.

So, how do you like the new layout? It’s super-minimalistic, I really like it but I’ve got this growing concern about the web’s trend toward insane minimalism making every website really boring to look at. If I get into it I might hit it up with some Photoshop love, as in previous ages of my site. Wow, now that’s a trip down memory lane.

UPDATE:
Because the response to the dice picture was good, I’ve posted a larger version of it for your benefit.
