I had some time today so I went through and updated a few things on the site I’d been meaning to do for a while. Among them are that I slightly updated the single post page (it now correctly shows paragraph indentations), added previous age links to the bottom of this page (scroll all the way down), fixed said previous ages (some of them broke in the server move, along with some other ones that had been broken all along). I did something else that I was really excited about but I forgot what it was… it seemed like a big fix at the time. Oh yeah! I finally fixed the site background so that it correctly remembers your preference no matter where you are on the site (previously it would be different depending on whether you arrived at / or at /wordpress). Also, I’ve stolen some great image scripts from someone else’s blog. Click on the accompanying image for this post and witness the mighty new zoom and fade capabilities. That, my friends, is AJAX (well, really just DHTML… there’s no XML or asynchronisity of data transport) at work! Thank you Cabel for engineering that.

You will note that if you’re using IE, it looks terrible. That’s okay because the site itself looks terrible in IE, but this being my personal blog I don’t really care about supporting broken browsers, no matter how much of the population is using it. In Firefox, it looks a bit lame because Firefox is really slow at rendering transparency. At least it renders okay (‘cept for that white border on the top and left). That leaves Safari, then, in which it looks perfectly amazing. It both performs well and renders correctly. This only serves to reinforce the fact that Safari IS the best browser available, unless you’re using Windows (because Safari is Mac-only). If you are using the Mac and you’re using Firefox instead, you should be beaten until bloody because you’re actually using a less capable browser. This is doubly bad because Firefox is not the default browser: you must knowingly go out and download and begin using it. Shame on you! Use a better browser!

some men came over earlier to beat me bloody, but I assuaged their wrath by explaining that I was using firefox and that it was the best the pc I was using could support and that it isn’t my computer anyway, but if I had a computer it would be a mac with safari. they left unsatisfied. I fear for the recipient of their inevitable wrath.

After much ignorance on my part, Hootie finally explained to me the importance of downloading firefox. I have to agree, your site looks much better now! I apologize for my lack of computer knowledge and the length of time in which it took me to convert from IE to firefox. In the future I promise to be more diligent in listening to people of higher intelligence than myself!

Your site may be better in firefox, but mine is better in IE… sad but true… firefox won’t play the music w/ my site… at least not on my computer…
