Driving to work this morning, there was this light fog which covered everything. The sky was really gray, like when people say gunmetal gray then that’s the color the sky was. There’s this sort of overpass that I drive on, it’s called the Dodge Expressway, I guess if you live in Omaha then you know what it is but sometimes people read this and they don’t live here. Anyway it’s sort of high up, like it’s higher than the ground, and if you look off to the sides you have this really great view of the city to the north and south. It’s this really vast expanse, and you can see all these trees, even though you’re right smack in the middle of the whole city, when you look at the trees it’s about all you can see, like there was just this forest here and nothing else. So this morning the fog was mixing in with the trees and it was so pretty, and I had the windows down and the sunroof open and the air was so perfect, it was like this perfect temperature and it smelled so good and I was taking all these deep breaths. Sometimes I like to pretend that there’s this sort of brown goo that builds up in my lungs from breathing too much stale air inside buildings, and when I take deep breaths outside in the early morning it cleanses that goo out and I work better, like maybe I’m more energetic because this goo isn’t there anymore. But then I started to get lightheaded from all the deep breathing so I stopped, and anyway by that time I was past the part where I could see the trees and the fog, and I was into the part where all I could see was the concrete barriers and the six lanes and the office complexes, which are pretty in their own way but it’s not like… you know? But for those few moments while I was looking at the trees and seeing the fog and breathing in the perfect air and feeling the soft wind against my face and just like looking at the sky and reveling in God’s beautiful creation, it was perfect. I was all, this is a perfect morning.

You win. My commute this morning was bumper to bumper traffic. Yay summer construction.
