My dad called me a few days ago and said, “I heard a horrible screeching noise coming from your computer.” Coupled with what I perceived to be tremendous slowdowns in the speed of my server, I am of the impression that the hard drive is dying and will soon be dead. Now, I could get another box and get it all set up and replace the ancient iMac which I’ve been using. But I feel like I’m finally ready to make the plunge and purchase space somewhere. I’m tired of being on a slow pipe, on a slow server. The reason I’ve never made the switch is because I absolutely love being in control of my own destiny. It’s the difference between owning your house and renting it (really, it is. In almost every way).

So I laid out some CHC (actually, it was a credit card payment, so it was not actually cold hard cash) and bought a plan at DreamHost. For less than ten dollars a month, they have agreed to service me with nearly all the freedom I had on my own server, in addition to 160 gigabytes of space and 1.7 terabytes of bandwidth.

It looks like I’ve got everything just about switched over to the new server. I can already tell how much faster it is. If you notice anything broken, anything at all, drop me a line.

In other news, I am nearing completion of a brand new version of iTunesCheck. It is a total rewrite of the entire codebase and uses WebKit to render its views. It includes exciting CoreGraphics and CoreImage transitions. I’m going to need some people to help me test it so if you have a Mac, you should totally tell me.

In Acromania news, the results are in. You can also peep the scoreboard. Congrats to Dan. For next time, I have chosen this: BBB. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey, I was the very first alpha tester for iTC! Even before you had an icon….EVEN BEFORE IT WAS iTC!

Yeah. iTunes Scroller. I still have it. It doesn’t work, but golly, I still have it. I can even test the new version on my Mini for those pesky universal problems.

I’ll turn in my sub later.

and since you said to mention it…the image for this post is broken.

After much thought, three B’s in a row is a tough one.

Therefore:
Buxom Brutes Bowling

Does everyone get bonus points for alliteration?

It’s a true story that you were the first tester. I remember those times well. You were also the only user (besides me) for a long time. Now it’s very popular in Germany. I’m not sure why.

And yes, those who use alliteration in their submission will get bonus points. ;)

Here is my submission for this new one:

Businesses Blackmailing Businesses

I could be from the wrong segment (I am a business marketing major) but I do believe in my own head that the true BBB stands for Better Business Bureau, and when you really break down that organization you come to my acromania submission. Thanks. And as a side note i am in fact of strong german heritage and do enjoy iTunes Check, maybe i t has some Hasselhoff undertones or something……

But on the Back is a Button.

Take that E.C. for alliteration.

(Forget that old one)

Blokes Blagging Blimpie’s

(blag v. To wheedle something for free, in a context like “I managed to blag a ride to work”. )

(Also, Joanna is concerned. Her submission is not on here.)

Benevolent Body Bags

The kind planet Starbucks will invent with their stellar takeover and merge with Cingular. You can buy the whole package for 50% at the Lowe’s Starship . . . BBB’s, Coroner’s Cancerous Coffins, AND Luxuriously Lavished Lawyers (for assuring yourself of that inheritance) . . . sounds like a real steal to me.

Hey you… this is the first time I’ve come on here in a long time! I’m impressed that you still keep it up, if but once a month. You look like you’ve turned into a coffee yuppie in that picture!

Oh, and uh….. Bloody Boisterous Brits!

This is your reminder to consider giving Kathlyn extra bonus points for having TWO letter alliteration on her entry. And I was supposed to tell you Joanna’s entry, too, but it turns out I can’t remember it. But she just walked in and her entry is

Kathlyn says:

……she just “helped me” remember it by submitting nothing.

Good news: everyone who used alliteration garners a 5% bonus! For reference, that would be everyone who submitted anything. Kathlyn, as she mentioned, also gains another 5% bonus for two letter alliteration. Peep the scoreboard for the full scoop.

I enjoyed eL’s first submission and it would have won, but unfortunately he nixed it by submitting something else. After that, it was tough. You’re all getting very good at this and I liked them all. In the end, I rolled a d4 and it landed on 4, which corresponds to Cary! Way to score that die toss. However, because I enjoyed the other three responses, those contestants will receive a 1% bonus. That would be eL’s second submission, Kathlyn’s, and Dan J’s.

But wait, there’s more! eL also receives a -1% bonus for not winning because he submitted something else. Kathlyn gets yet another 0.5% bonus for holding the high bonus this week. Wow!

Note that the calculation for percent bonuses does not work like a video game. I do not do score * total bonus, I do score * bonus 1 * bonus 2 * bonus 3 * .... I think it’s a lot more exciting that way.
