There are a few things I would like to share with you. In the spirit of the last several posts I’ve made here, they’re tidbits of whatever is in my brain soup right now. In fact, this whole post is simply an excuse to test whether uploading a picture works again. I noticed last time I posted that it failed (silently, of course, so I had no idea what was wrong), but I’m pretty sure it was a permission issue. So I’ll find out as soon as I stop typing.

Great. First item: I went to the bookstore today with the express intent of purchasing Managing Humans, a book by Rands, one of my favorite bloggers. He is a manager in Silicon Valley and has tremendous insight into the operation of the human mind and how not to forget that most of your job is interacting with people, even though you’re a programmer. It just came out and they didn’t have it. I was bummed. BUT they did have a book by my other favorite manager blogger, Joel. I’ve read a substantial portion of it already and it is amazing. It’s not often that you think to yourself, “Nearly everyone I know needs to read this, in its entirety, right now.” I laughed, I cried. It moved me, Bob.

Item two: I honestly can’t remember. There were some fireworks outside and I was distracted as I walked down to the park to watch them, through the mobs and mobs of cars wildly parked at all angles. It was like time ground to a halt on the road while all people in cars stopped moving simultaneously. I guess it’s true that everyone loves fireworks. Like, everybody. There was a blind guy on my project last summer. He loved fireworks because he liked the noise and they were so bright that he could see them a little.

Item three: Acromania. The results from last time’s incredibly poor game are in. Congrats to Kevin for winning. Next time’s acronym is FBI.

I’m disappointed by how slow everyone responds to acromania. I demand recompense for checking for new posts all the time.

Winner this round: Dan! Because he frequently borders on insanity. I thought it was interesting that both Indo and Kevin really tried to insert an additional word into their submissions, but in each case I decided the word was too much to bend the rules for. Kathlyn gains a level for using a recursive acronym. As always, check out the scoreboard for up-to-date standings.
